The Easiest First Step Toward Better Visibility: Build a FAQ Page

FAQ page questions and answers

Why it matters for SEO and AI search, how to build one, and where to put it so people actually find it

In my previous article, I talked about how search split into SEO, AEO, and GEO, and why AI systems are now reading your website too, not just Google. If you’re wondering where actually to start, start here. Building a proper FAQ page is the simplest, fastest thing you can do this month, and it happens to be one of the best converters on your entire site.

Why a FAQ page, in simple words

A FAQ page does two jobs at once. It answers the exact questions your visitors are typing into Google, asking ChatGPT, or turning over in their head right before deciding to book you. That’s SEO, because Google has always liked content structured around real questions. It’s also AEO and GEO, because AI systems pull answers from FAQ-style content more readily than almost any other format, since it’s already shaped like an answer. And it’s conversion, because the person reading your FAQ is often one hesitation away from picking up the phone or filling in your contact form.

I wrote a whole piece on that conversion angle here: Add FAQs for better conversion

Worth a read if you want the deeper why behind the numbers. But for now, know this: no redesign, no new plugin, no rewriting your whole website. Just honest answers, in the right place. That’s the first and simplest step toward better visibility online.

How to build your FAQ page, step by step

Step 1
Find the real questions. Don’t guess. The strongest FAQ pages are built from questions people actually ask, not from what you assume they might ask.

  • Go through your email inbox and note which questions keep repeating.
  • Check your contact form submissions and any chat history you have.
  • Ask whoever answers the phone what people want to know before they book.
  • Search your own service on Google and look at the “People also ask” box. Google is already telling you what people ask.
  • If you have Google Search Console connected, check the actual search queries already bringing people to your site.
  • Read your reviews, your social comments, and your DMs.
  • For a practice or a B&B specifically, think about what a new client or guest genuinely doesn’t know yet: cancellation policy, parking, pricing, what to bring, insurance or reimbursement questions, whether it’s suitable for children or pets.

Step 2
Write honest, short answers. Two to four sentences each, no marketing fluff, no vague “it depends” unless it truly depends, in which case explain what it depends on. Write like you’re answering a friend, not defending yourself in court.

Step 3
Group and order sensibly. If you have more than eight or so questions, group them by theme: booking, pricing, practical, service-specific. Put the question that most often stops someone from converting near the top.

Step 4
Give it its own page. A dedicated URL, such as yoursite.com/faq, gives you something to link to from everywhere else on your site, and gives Google and AI crawlers one clear page to reference.

Step 5
Optional but valuable: add FAQ structured data. A bit of technical markup called FAQPage schema tells search engines exactly which text is a question and which is the answer, which is what makes those expandable dropdowns show up directly in Google’s results. If that sounds technical, that’s exactly the kind of thing Designlab quietly takes off your plate.

How to embed your FAQ page so it actually gets seen

Building the page is only half the job. A FAQ page nobody finds doesn’t help your SEO or your conversion. Spread it through your site like this:

  • Homepage: place your three most important questions, the ones most likely to stop someone from converting, directly on the homepage, with a “see all FAQs” link to the full page.
  • Footer: add a permanent link to your FAQ page, reachable from every single page on your site.
  • In your content: whenever a blog post or service page naturally raises a question you’ve already answered, link straight to that specific question on your FAQ page, not just to the top of it.
  • Main menu: for smaller sites, a simple “FAQ” link in the navigation works well too.
  • Before checkout or your contact form: a short “common questions” box right before the button quietly removes last-minute doubt.
  • Google Business Profile and social bios: link there too. Consistency across every platform, remember, is exactly what AI systems reward.

Take it easy, no panic

If this all sounds like a lot to add to your to-do list, take a breath. This is exactly the kind of practical, unglamorous, high-impact work Designlab handles quietly and well. Send over your most common questions, or let us help you find them, and we’ll build, structure, and embed a FAQ page that does its job on Google, on AI search, and on your conversion rate. No panic needed, just one email.
